The Arts bring funds into the city in a big way. At times the arts bring in more $$ than sports. We should budget more for the arts and enjoy the rewards both financialy and intrinsically that follow. As the late Robert Beckmann Jr. (Republican) said " Arts are ESSENTIAL--not optional; CENTRAL--not peripheral".
We as a city go head to head with Coulmbus, Kansas City, Louisville, Nashville, Chicago and others for jobs, new business, investments, new residents, visitors, bond ratings, etc. These are not friendly rivalries, but true life-and-death competitions for survival and success as communities. The cities that survive and thrive are those with neighborhoods that have a thriving sprit of creativity, of exploration, of celebration, of strong economic development. The arts are an important example of how our city has continued to grow and thrive. If we want to continue to grow, attract new things (superbowl) we MUST continue to fund the ARTS!!!!

Art brings out the beauty of the people and place - public funding of the arts is in the public interest to remind us of the beauty all around us. Please continue funding of the arts.

For Indianapolis to be taken seriously as a world class city, we must have an active, vibrant, and supported arts community.
We don't even have a city ballet anymore!
